How to get to Aegina
For a lot of good reasons we are based on Aegina, and not in Athens (Kalamaki Marina). E.g. because we think that Kalamaki Marina is not very cosy for a first night's stay.
So? How do you get to Aegina? This is very easy but if it is your first time, you'd probably want a few pointers. Here they are:
From the Airport of Athens to Port of Piraeus (= Athens)
Take a taxi (c. €25-30 in the daytime). In general most taxi's from the airport are very professional (like anywhere else in the world * ). Just tell the driver that you want to go to Aegina and he'll know what part of Piraeus to bring you to. The docks are organized by destination, so all ferries to Aegina leave from the same dock. Please note that they add c. €7 (for airport fee, toll way and luggage) on top of the price on the meter. If you are less adventurous or you prefer to test the Greek public transportation you may opt for: the Express bus X96 (€3,20 p/p). Usually they leave every 20 minutes, have air-conditioning and there is guaranteed no haggling on the price.
Stay put until Piraeus which is the end of the line. From there it is a 100 m. walk to the ferries to Aegina.
*Note from the author: the sneaky ones are the ones that can't stop talking.... If you feel you are being ripped off, stay calm, unload your luggage and ask for the police... after a few seconds offer him €25 chances are he'll take it.
From the Port of Piraeus to Aegina Island
